Employment laws  - (UK Rules and Regulations)

From what i have read in the link above i have understood that no matter what sex you are you shouldn't depreciate, the pay, work hours, a contracts time between a man or a woman. There are some exceptions under this law when an organization only needs females to work or only two males in the organization for example a refuge for abused women.

 The employer has to give the employee a length of time they are going to terminate their contract with the company. They are also entitled to a written statement of particulars of employment also the statement can be given in installments and should not be given no later than two months.

National Minimum Wage Act - http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1998/39/contents

All workers that are over the age of 18, they should be paid at least the minimum wage and more if that's what the company offers. the national minimum wage for when you are on a apprenticeship the lowest you can be paid is £2.65 per hour.

This requires all organizations provide facilities for disabled persons to work or enter a building.

This is the act where no one should be judged or left out because of their race, religion, nationality etc.

Unit 4 p1 and p2


Part 1 - A: Research a range (minimum 3) of on-line companies from different sectors in
order to build ideas and knowledge for your business, your research should cover
the following areas:

- Financial issues
- Funding and risks
- Organizational structures
- Website design features
- Job roles and functions in an online business

These are the three organizations i have chosen for Private Sector(NHS), Public Sector (Tesco) and NGO (Cancer Research) 


Private Sector: Tesco

The Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002

The Trade Descriptions Act 1968  

The acts that are listed above, shows that Tesco has the license to trade online as well as local stores, and whether it is in the UK or internationally.


Financial Issues:  REFERENCE:-

- How many businesses deal with the paying for a product online is buy card for example Tesco you can pay for the product online or when you go collect the product in store, you have the choice of paying buy card or in store.


Funding and risks: REFERENCE:-

- The risk of this is that fraud can happen, and people can loose there money also maybe the not the right amount of money will be deducted from the persons account, also the payments might not

Tesco's organizational structure - This is an hierarchical structure.

-  The layout of Tesco's website uses tabs, roll overs, also search boxes. They tend to have main heading4s to find particular products.
-  The use bright colours, special offers with images and texts that and bold that catch the customers eyes.


Job roles and functions in an online business: REFERENCE:-

- Web developer - This is a someone who looks after the HTTP in a         company also the development of the companies website.

- Database administrator - A person that stores various amounts of information, on a day to day basis.

- Programmer - Someone who writes computer programs for a company.

- Website design - A layout for a website.

- Network support  - software that is not needed for everyday use but when it is need if should be immediate.

- Software developer - this is a person or organization that deals with the faucets of the software development process.



Public Sector: NHS

It extends having the rights to have access to information that's held by public bodies.

The Bribery Act tackles offenses in the public and private sector. Anything related to bribing and being bribe makes an offense to the organization that can lead to punishment of an unlimited fine.
They will not bribe or accept any bribe for any purposes, it is important for them that all their employees, contractors and agents are aware of what action the expects of them.

The NHS Trust ensures that everyone is treated in the right way with respect, that the opportunities they provide is open to all and they want to provide a safe. workers, clients and visitors. To achieve this they have 'Single Equality Scheme' and 'Race equality Scheme'. "Equality & Diversity are not interchangeable. They need to be progressed together. There is no equality of opportunity if difference is not recognized and valued."

Financial issues: - REFERENCE: 

The NHS currently has no financial issue for it is a tax funded company, but if taxes drop the NHS will be in jeopardy. This means we will have to pay for services.



Funding and risks:

The NHS is a tax funded company this means that if the government doesn't claim enough taxes certain NHS services that we get for free we will have to pay for eventually regardless of any discounts we currently receive.

This is the organizational structure for the NHS.
This shows the process tyou will have to go through to if ther has been an incident or if you have idea that can help inprove the service.

The website design features for the website are colourful but basic, they have search boxes with buttons to click on to help you find information you need.

NGO: Oxfam         



“Oxfam is a registered charity (registration number 202918) and is constituted as a company registered in England and limited by guarantee (registration number 612172).” Based on Oxfam’s organizational ‘Structure, Governance and Management’ on their Annual Report. It operates internationally and Oxfam wants to stop and help people living in poverty.
Mission Statement: - “To help create lasting solutions to injustice of poverty. We are part of global movement, for change, one that empowers people to create future that is secure, just, and free from poverty.”

- Rules and Regulations:-  

- Data Protect Act 1998 – This proves that the customers and staffs personal details are secure and will not be sold or shown to anyone else.
- Privacy policy – This secures the information and also that that it is not published our used by anyone else.
- Reserve’s Policy – This ensures that the organization is protected from disruption and also a short notice of lacking funds, also that the organization does not keep money or information longer than required.
- Ethical and Environmental Policy – this is where Oxfam started to complete their mission by fighting poverty and to help those in need of food and medication to make a better standard of life for them this policy they follow helps to keep the organization up and running to make it successful.
- Financial issues:-
- People donate are able to donate though fundraising events, online or in store to contribute to help with their missions to help people in countries. This also includes buying products in store and calling. They use payment security on line to prevent the customers becoming a victim of  fraud or identity theft because online, in store or over the phone they use debit/credit cards to transfer money to the organization.
- Funding and risks:-
The organization uses funding from events, contributions form donators, income from stores, and also funds from the government. Also the website contains an online shop where customers and purchase item for delivery to their house or donate money to the organization. But they have to sign up and sign in before they are able to use this function on the website.

- Organizational structures:-
The type of organization structure Oxfam uses is a Hierarchical Organisation Structure. This means the board of management is on top which makes all the decisions for the company including cuts and expansion for the company.  Below contains the Chief Executive and the rest of the organization which contributes to the organization.

- Website design features:-

The website contains a plain white background but has a green boarder, the main purpose of the website is to inform staff, donators and customers how their money and donations are helping to contributing to help other people in need and may eventually stop poverty in 3rd world countries. The website also contains how the money will help people but how to donate money to help people in need, by being a voice for them.





- Job roles and functions in an online business
Listed below will be many job division in Oxfam:-
-         Campaign and policy -  Jobs under this category are:-
-          Campaign Project Assistant
-         Gender Equity Support Officer
-         Research Officer
-         Etc.
These jobs all related to campaigning for a project and helping with the policies the company follows
-         Communications – This category involves work like media rolls for this are:-
-         Multimedia project manager
-         Social media manager
-         Corporate  Human Resources –This division hires, fires employees and also doing paper work to check if they are eligible to work with the company in the UK also if they have used anyone else documents to enter the country to get a job.
-         Directorate – This department is in charge of planning and management for the company making sure ever thing runs smoothly.
-         Finance & IS -   They are responsible for handing the money from the organization  by creating an annual or monthly budget, calculating pay roll, bonuses, etc.
-         International – This department sends staff and volunteers overseas to complete missions jobs under this category are:-
-         Global impact evaluation advisor
-         Partnership manager
-         Etc.
-         Marketing – This department is responsible for the marketing of Oxfams projects and events to the public to help more people provide donations, jobs under this are:-
-         Fundraising event Executive
-         Stewarding
-         marketing and communications officer
-         telephone fundraising representative
-         Etc.
-         Trading – They handle all the trading that happen in the local Oxfam stores ensuring everything is going great. Jobs under this department are:-
-          Area Manager
-         Deputy Shop Manager
-         Head of Retail
-         Etc.
